A Matter Of Chatter - Spirituality Information
There are many ways to give thanks in these times, but few that offer the depth of gratitude that is lost with routine. Thanksgiving is an American holiday, but all over the world gratitude is a way of life. Whether they are thanking God for their blessings or on their own; be it a special meal, their family, friends or self-care; people do things everyday to express more appreciation of what they have and who they are surrounded potentially avoiding thanksgiving altogether. Just like in America people have forgotten about it as time has gone by but thanksgiving can be a time for reflection about exactly what you need to express your thankfulness and gratitude . Therefore, the holiday is to connect with the past, present and future of all that we have been, are, and will be. Reflections on gratitude can be an easy, yet profound way to add more meaning to your life. (Morris, 2011)
For most of us there is a point in our life where we become lose sight of all the good things around us because we think it is "normal". We forget about how hard it was to get here or how many obstacles we had to overcome or how far we've come because those are the new normal. Feeling grateful for what you have means you can have peace in your life. According to ancient wisdom from India, the Upanishads, "The wise man has a relaxed, open and grateful attitude towards the world and its gifts. He accepts that the world is a place of wonder that is full of beauty and goodness. Because he sees the truth in this he is able to go about his life in a very peaceful way". (Osterman, 2012) This is one reason why we need to be grateful for what we have because if we want to really be happy then gratitude will help us reach our personal happiness meaning.. Every day there are things you can count your blessing on, even if it's as simple as an extra ten minutes in bed or waking up with no alarm clock. But these simple things are some of the easiest things to forget about, especially when going from one day to the next. So when you think about your life and all you have, be thankful because it's important for your mental health.
According to many studies of happiness, gratitude is one of the key factors that makes people happiest in their lives. There are many ways we can express our gratitude but we must also acknowledge it too. The bad side of life happens too, but then again so does good, and this is what helps us acknowledge all the good things in our life even if they may seem small compared to other big problems in the world. According to a study by Walker, if you are able to write down five things you are grateful for every day for 21 days in a row, then you will start to see positive benefits in your life. The best part about this is that it does not take much time and can make a huge impact.
In today's world people tend to get so caught up with their daily routine and work that they forget about what they have already accomplished or what they have going on in their life. It's important to remember your blessings from the past because there is a big chance they helped you get where you're at now. So be thankful for all the people who have helped you or been there for you. In addition, remember that everyone has problems no matter how small they may seem and it's also important to be grateful for what happened in the past because that is what led you to where you are today. (Harrison, 2014)
When expressing gratitude we should be thankful not only to others but also to ourselves. With all the things we go through in life it is good to know that our skills, abilities and talents that help us get through hard times. "We can practice being grateful with every situation we encounter by learning how to see the positive side of any challenging experience". (Petit, 2004) This is why we should also be thankful to ourselves even if it's a setback or mistake that we made. The truth of the matter is that when you're able to see the good in things it makes it easier on you and others. It's also important to remind yourself of all your good deeds that you've accomplished throughout your life just like a child who keeps telling themselves if they had just worked harder or stayed longer in school their grades would have been better. It's important that we acknowledge the people and things around us because they are what makes up our lives. Gratitude brings out the best in us, so be thankful for whom you are and what you have.
Praying is a great way to show your gratitude to God, but of course not everyone has the same beliefs. Another way is to give back and help those around you, especially those who need it the most. This can be done by volunteering or by helping your neighbors if they need it. The best part about this is that you can get everything you want, or wish for even if it might be from someone else. In addition, according to a study by Seligman of University of Pennsylvania (2005), volunteer work can provide health benefits such as lessening depression and anxiety levels. Even though this is only a short term benefit, it's still good to know that you can be a part of something bigger than yourself and help others in need.
There are many ways to show your appreciation but one way that gets overlooked is through writing letters. It's not popular among young adults these days, but it goes a long way. The reason why we are so grateful on Thanksgiving is because the idea came from an actual letter written by Mrs.
Conclusion:
Today, gratitude is referred to as a strength that makes the world a better place. It's a philosophy that has been around for quite some time and it is the main reason why we are able to be thankful for all that we have. Gratitude helps us see the good and overcome adversity in our lives because when we are in a positive state of mind it's easier for us to be happy. The basic idea of gratitude is simple: you're grateful for what you have, so you appreciate it more. In addition, when you lose something, then you are able to realize your blessings and appreciate what was taken from you.
