How To NOT Reach Your Goal And Be Happy At The Same Time!

We all want to reach a goal and be happy at the same time. But sometimes reaching our goals is just not fun. In this blog post, we explore what it means to NOT reach your goal and be happy at the same time.
Carrying on:
Is the key to happiness!
Now, some of you may be thinking. "But Chris, how can I not reach my goal and be happy at the same time?" It's pretty straight forward. The answer is I contained in the word "carrying" and the word "on". Here is what I mean by that.
The concept of carrying on!   The concept of carrying on basically means that when you reach a goal … you start working toward a new goal. In other words, when you are halfway to your destination … stop looking back!   Start looking forward, to your next destination. This is what I mean by carrying on!
I use running as an example.  Let's say I run a marathon. I would carry on, (for a month) and then try to run another marathon. This is the point where it gets really fun! I do another marathon and by the time I'm finished, I am happy at the same time … because my goal has been reached!   Here are some other examples:
You see, without reaching your goal or being happy …   you are just carrying on.
Let's take a look at why this happens. Here is what happens when you start out wanting to change your life but never reaching your goal:
The "why" behind "carrying-on". The reason why some people carry-on is because they want to feel bad about themselves. They want to justify their behaviour by saying that "at least I'm trying". I want to try and stop feeling so bad about myself …"carrying-on" is the most lame excuse for not improving your life. It's like the "I'm busy" excuse we all use when we don't have time to do things we really want. It's an excuse, a weak one at that.  I know some people who are just plain lazy and they don't want to work hard. That's fine with me because I'm not into the whole damn "hustle" thing! But if you want to be good at something … you have to put in the effort. That's why when people are in the middle of their journey … they won't stop until they reach their goal.
The "why" behind "being-happy". The other reason why some people carry on is because they don't want to feel guilty about being happy. In other words,  "I'll just carry on pretending nothing has happened". I'm guilty of this too in some situations. The reason why I only mention this is because you need to understand that everyone comforts themselves in different ways. It comes down to personal preference and how you were raised by your parents. So don't take this as the "one size fits all" Answer. You need to figure out why someone is feeling bad and that is something I will cover in future articles. How do you get comfortable with yourself?
The "why" behind "being-happy". The last reason people carry on (the worst reason) … they might be scared of failure (where they are afraid of ending up back at square one). I see this all the time. Some people go through some sleepless nights, worst comes to worst, they have no money and have to live in their car … this is just plain weird. I know plenty of people from different walks of life who have done the same thing! This is not a solution!  If it's scared you … don't worry about it … set your mind that "You are going to succeed" and if you fail … at least you tried.   Are you  sure? You can't be 100% sure. If you are not, then look at the bigger picture. I remember a time when I wanted to do stunt driving … I failed three times in a row. I thought, "You know what? It's just not worth doing and I'm going to quit". But if you don't try … you might never have the opportunity to achieve your goals. So, once again … be sure!
"How To NOT Reach Your Goal And Be Happy At The Same Time!"
There is really only one solution:  Carry on  as hard as you can until you reach your goal!   Then feel like crap!    Sounds dumb right? Well, that's life! But let me tell you something more important. In order to not reach your goal and be happy at the same time … you actually have to go for it! You think your life is boring? So does everyone else! When you are happy then other people will notice. They will notice that you are really happy! This is how being happy has a ripple effect!
Now, there may be some people who aren't feeling good about themselves and they need help with this.   The first thing is to get rid of any guilt about being happy. There is no reason to feel bad. The second thing is don't try and do things for other people. Do what's best for you. Remember, your friends are there for you too … but only if you deserve them!

Conclusion:
The more you carry on with your goal, the more you will be happy. The problem is that if you carried on to much it may lead to the opposite effect and make you feel bad when you should be happy. In this article we looked at "Carrying On" and what happens that lead to negative feelings and insights on how we can avoid these feelings in the future.
