Is Change Ever Easy
Change can be difficult, but that doesn't mean you should give up on it. Change is necessary for growth and improvement in any area of your life (whether it's personal or professional).
The idea that change is hard for people to accept may stem from the fear of the unknown. Change will inevitably result in a new normal, which is why many people might have a hard time accepting the fact that things aren't as they used to be. And while change has been known to shake things up, it also has its rewards: an opportunity for new beginnings, fresh perspectives and new insights into what we value most in life.
The following are some key points to remember:
To accept change, you must be prepared to adapt. Learning something new – whether it be a new way of communicating, learning a new skill, or discovering a new confidence – requires the willing acceptance of an unfamiliar process that might initially feel uncomfortable. If you don't believe that change is possible for you, then the progress toward this goal will be far less substantial than it could have been. In fact, even if it's simply going to take time and effort to reach your goal – rather than something that is totally out of reach - coming to grips with this reality will make your pursuit of change far more manageable.
Prepare for change by training for it. Activities such as learning a new language, or taking a class or seminar to improve your skills in something completely different, will be useful and valuable when it comes time to make changes in your work or personal life. If you have no idea where you're going, you won't know what you need to prepare for – so don't assume that the path of least resistance is the most reasonable choice. Be sufficiently proactive by choosing a different way of making progress, even if it doesn't seem sensible.
Change is usually difficult, but not always so. Usually, we want to believe that change is negative and undesirable. And while this may be true at times, it doesn't mean that the process is inherently flawed or bad. Don't allow yourself to be blinded by what you think change should look like – embrace it with an open mind and willingness to learn, and you'll discover that there are far more good things about it than bad.
Change is a natural part of life, but as such, most people resist it and are afraid of it because they have a very different idea of what making changes in their lives would really feel like. They expect change to be something serious and of great consequence, and so they experience a lot of fear when they're going through a change.
We're afraid of what it will feel like to have made that change. We're afraid of the consequences; we're afraid that we won't be able to handle the change, so we get very worried about it. And when we worry, our feeling-state becomes agitated, and at that point the vibrational frequency of our energy is no longer in sync with attracting a new experience into our life. As a result, we remain stuck in the old situation and unable to move forward into this new thing which we want.
To accept change you must be prepared to adapt. If you are not ready, the change will be a shock to your system and you may experience any region of the emotion spectrum: frustration, anger, boredom, depression, or even panic.
One thing that most people don't realize about change is that it won't make them happy; it will make them whole. Once we're prepared to make changes in our lives – and we're willing to accept them – change becomes something much more positive than we ever thought it could be. Not only does it allow us to gain something new and different but also adds value to our lives.
We are always changing and evolving, but the more we trust change, the easier it is to move forward with it. When we feel fear over change and try to back out of it, we are actually fighting against our own ability to grow and learn.
When faced with change, ask yourself the following questions:
If you answer NO to any of these questions, then you will probably encounter some (if not a lot of) resistance during the process of change. That's why it's important to thoroughly consider all of your options before choosing a certain path in life.
As you begin to accept change, you will discover that it's actually easy – or at least easier than what you first thought. In fact, as you become more comfortable with the idea of change, and are able to look at it from a different perspective and perspective, what once seemed impossible will become a reality.
Change is not something that should be feared; rather, it should be embraced as an opportunity to create something new rather than stay stagnant in the old.
