It's not too early to start thinking about what you want to achieve in the new year. Who doesn't want to be happy and healthy? What are your goals for 2018? Do you want to make a career change? You will have opportunities in the new year because of things that have happened in 2017 that might have changed your life, changing all the better. Now is a good time, even if it isn't exactly convenient because we have some downtime at this time of year. What are you looking forward to in the new year?
What is your resolution? Is it something that you can maintain throughout the year or do you feel that you will have to make a change by the end of January because, like most resolutions or goals, it didn't work? Whatever it is, make sure that you set a goal for yourself for 2018. It could be to learn a new skill. Are there goals that you have already set and not been able to achieve? Do not let those goals go. They are good goals.
What is on your mind?
Are they the same goals that you have had for yourself in the past? It's alright if they are. You have to be able to adjust your goals to accommodate changing circumstances and situations in your life. Now is a good time to set your goals and check them every month. That way, you will know whether or not you have achieved them. If not, do not get discouraged but try again with new determination. Fear is bad.
That's not a goal; it's just a good idea.
No one likes to fail. It's very discouraging.
It is understandable if you have never achieved your goals because there is a first time for everything. There are also things that you cannot change, no matter how hard you try, it won't happen. However, some things will be within your reach and anything is possible when you put a good plan into action and stick to it like a true champion. If one method of achieving your goal doesn't work, try another. Don't get discouraged.
There is a time in every man's education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide; that he must take himself for better, for worse, as his portion; that though the wide universe is full of good, no kernel of nourishing corn can come to him but through his toil bestowed on that plot of ground which is given to him to till.
If you are feeling discouraged, take a moment to reflect on what Ralph Waldo Emerson said in that quote.
The biggest mistake most people make is to set out to accomplish too much at one time. They get overwhelmed and give up when they haven't even begun.
Break it down into smaller goals, like the steps of a staircase. The important thing is making sure that you achieve your goals even if it takes you more than one year to complete them. If you don't, it's not the end of the world. When you achieve the first goal on the list and feel confident that you can do it, move on to the next thing. You will probably have to change things along the way but stay focused and at least make one step forward with each.
The key is not to get discouraged and give up.
Stop making resolutions.
Most people are disappointed because they make promises to themselves that they can't keep. They say that it's a new year and they don't repeat the same mistakes again. Every time you make a resolution, you have to be able to change your goals and achieve your first goal no matter how difficult it is. It's easy to feel frustrated if the goal is not easy but you have to look at it as an opportunity to learn something new because everyone makes mistakes.

Accept help when you need it.
There are people in your life that will make things easier for you. That doesn't mean that they will get credit for it but if you need help, ask for it. If someone gives you some advice, be grateful but do not depend too much on them because they are not obligated to be there for you or always answer your questions even if they should know the answer to whatever question you have asked them. Asking for advice is not only a good idea but it's a good habit.
Don't be afraid to ask for help.
Most people think that answer is no when they are being asked to do something but eventually this will change. When you work hard, it will come.
Be grateful for what you have and the things that you don't have, because there is probably a reason why you don't have them and it might be because of hard work or luck. You need to make your own luck or you will never get anything done.
The best way to set a goal is to write it down.
That way, you have something physical that you can look at and evaluate. Is it working or not? If so, great! If not, think about how you can make it work for you. Come up with some practical solutions and don't stop until your goals are met because that is the only way to achieve them.

In conclusion, setting a goal is the most important part of achieving success. Believe in yourself and you will succeed. If you want to accomplish something, set it as a resolution for the new year and try to accomplish it before the year ends.
