 Palmistry - The Thumb

Palmistry is the ancient art of predicting a person's character and future based on the patterns, markings, and lines found on their palm. It involves close observation of certain characteristics in each hand to determine what kind of personality traits each hand suggests. Palmers use the analogy that there are three major hands to worry about: The left hand represents your conscious self; The right hand represents your subconscious self; And finally, your dominant hand (if you have one) is controlled by your ego.

A person's dominant hand is the one that their fingers naturally point towards. The essence of their personality can be predicted by examining the fingers, lines, and shapes of that dominant hand. If a person has a left-handed thumb and uses it for writing, it represents an analytical mind; if they have a right-handed thumb and use it for drawing/artwork, this indicates an artistic individuality.

The thumb is the most crucial structure in palm reading. It is the base that your hand pivots and rotates around. The arrangement of the fingers, balance, and "thumb placement" can be features that predict a person's future. Some general predictions are:
One thing to keep in mind is different cultures have different meanings for specific markings on the thumb. A single culture will have a variety of readings for these markings as well. For a complete list of all possible readings, please see our article on Thumb Lines .

Title: Palmistry - The Lines Across The Palm [ARTICLE START]
Palms are comprised of lines and creases that radiate from a center point on the palm called the mount (or hill). The lines on the palms of your hands are detailed road maps for your life. They tell about your past, present, and future. The general meaning of palm lines can be determined by just their placement and the number of them you possess.
There are three main lines that cover most palms: the head line, the heart line, and the life line . These three major pathways are connected to each other in various ways. For example, the head line is connected to the heart line, and both the heart and life lines are linked to the mount .
The head line runs from the index finger's point of attachment to the pisiform bone at the bottom of your hand. It runs straight across to the thumb's attachment point in a horizontal fashion. It continues on down along your forearm and continues as an offshoot that travels up your arm continuing as an offshoot until it meets with its twin at your wrist.
The heart line starts on the base of the palm and travels diagonally to the pinky finger. It then continues up the pinky finger and continues to travel across the palm horizontally until it meets with the head line.
The life line is basically one long horizontal line that runs from your thumb, down across your palm, underneath a center point on (or around) your mount, and continues straight across underneath (or around) your index finger.
A broken heart line has a gap in the center of it . A broken head line has a gap near the thumb edge of the palm .
Ghost lines are short lines that almost look like faint life lines and occasionally appear on the palm as well. They tend to appear in times of vulnerability and distress, but otherwise disappear from the palm.
Some palms lack distinct head and/or heart lines, which could suggest that someone is not very well acquainted with their emotional nature or might just not be very "touchy feely.

Conclusion:
So what's the difference between palmistry and chiromancy? Unlike palmists, chiromancers do not have a very detailed study of the lines on the palm. In fact, they believe that only the lines around the mount (or hill) of the hand carry significant significance. Chiromancers focus mainly on just one line in particular, known as Mercury's Line . This small line is located on the edge of your index finger and helps to indicate how skilled a person is in certain areas.
