Finding inspiration in the power of storytelling

Whether you’re writing your first novel or just looking for new ideas, a story of sorts has probably been percolating in your mind. But where do you find inspiration? Where is it lurking?

For most writers, the answer is staring them right in the face: all around them. Great stories have been written about love and death; they come from every culture and every time period throughout history. Just think of Romeo and Juliet, War and Peace, or Harry Potter. We’re all familiar with these stories, and we’re inspired by them. But no one has ever found the inspiration for those stories from some random place in the sky.

I fly away… and write. :) Writing is a habit for me. I don't think of it when I wake up in the morning or get ready for bed at night. I just write, and hopefully remember to edit sometimes too. I also write to help my characters along. I don't know if that makes sense but, it's how I work. This week I have been finishing up a book called "Keeping Secrets." It's a Dan Brown-like thriller that was really fun to write and look forward to getting to the readers! Writing on Jan 25, 2016 Book Review: "The Cure" by Michelle L. Cory
I highly recommend this book and movie - both are excellent tales of love lost and found again! The movie will be released in the spring of 2016 and the novel was released on November 2, 2015. This book is about Charles who has spent most of his life in the village where he was born. He is the most revered member of the village because he has been a generous and loyal friend. His love for his wife makes him want to become a doctor like his father, even though he knows nothing about medicine. His need to help others becomes a driving force in his life. He meets Amanda, and she makes him believe again that love is possible - even with all the risks involved.
Rating: 4.5 Stars (I'm actually going to give it 5 because I love the movie! :) ) The characters in this one are amazing and real. I felt as though I knew them personally. Charles is an interesting and likeable character, even though he is a bit of a fool at times. I especially love his wife, who was an absolute blast to read about!
Would you recommend this novel? Yes! I would highly recommend both the novel and the movie if you like to read about characters with depth rather than one-dimensional characters or "good guys" and "bad guys." This book is set back in time where life was hard for women as well as men. If you like to read about strong women, this is a great book to read. The movie is scheduled for release in March 2016 and the novel was released in November 2015.
If you haven't seen the trailer for the movie yet, please check it out below - I promise you won't be disappointed!

I love writing. It doesn't matter how many books I publish, it's a part of me that I can't quit. That's why in the summer of 2013, I was inspired to write my first novel. And after several years in the writing process, my first book was published yesterday!
The novel is called "Parade of All Goodies" and can be found at: http://www.amazon.com/Parade-Goodies-Carrie-Barr/dp/1582217407 "parade of all goodies" is a thought provoking novel about a family on the brink of collapse. The story is about the harsh realities of HIV and AIDs, and the problems that arise when relationships are strained as a result. Although I am proud of my novel, it was not easy to write. It took me nearly eight months to write this first book.

Conclusion: I would recommend that everyone write a novel, no matter how many novels you've already written. It has been a long process and an eye opener for sure. After eight months of working on 100 pages (or more) per day, my thoughts changed and I ended up moving through the story more quickly.
I'm looking forward to writing more books in my future!
