Manifesting Our Inner Potential
It’s a common problem for many of us: You’re in the middle of an awesome Netflix binge when suddenly you realize that you can no longer stream. What do you do? Well, chances are it’s a fairly simple situation. So let me give you five good tips on how to fix this issue once and for all!
1) Check your cables.
If you’re streaming wirelessly, the first thing you want to check is that your Wi-Fi is steady. Chances are if you’re the one in front of the screen, you can feel if the signal is consistent or not.
Sometimes this feeling will be subtle (like someone driving over a string), but other times it can be pretty obvious and even painful (like someone driving a tank over it). If it’s really bad, your Wi-Fi signal may interrupt your internet connection completely.
If you’re using an Ethernet cable and still have trouble, try reversing the cable order. This way, the laptop will connect to the router first and then to your modem. If that doesn’t help, try unplugging everything except your modem (I know it seems redundant, but most of the time it will solve your problem).
2) Check your router settings.
If you’re using your router for the first time, you should make sure it’s correctly configured. Go to the administration page and change your password, add a new security feature if needed, and set up port forwarding if applicable. Remember that this is a device between your computer and the internet; its features can sometimes cause problems in streaming if not properly set up!
3) Reset your router.
Try resetting your router by doing the following:
* Turn off your Wi-Fi and all LAN connections.
* Unplug anything that plugs into the router (SSID, cable modem, etc.) from the back of your computer.
* Wait a few minutes for all connections to go out.
4) Check your modem settings. If you’re no longer receiving an internet connection, you can try setting up port forwarding and see if it helps. Here’s a tutorial on how to do it.
5) Reboot your computer and router.
I know, I know--this seems like the obvious solution, right? Well it actually works quite well in many cases. In fact, this particular fix has solved more than one of my problems in the past! So get your lazy butt up, turn off your router, turn off your computer, wait a few minutes and then turn on everything again. If nothing happens, load up my guide on how to reboot your modem below.

REBOOT YOUR ROUTER
This is pretty much going to be your last option in the majority of cases but, as with every other solution, it’s worth a shot! The process is relatively simple:
* Unplug all cables from the back of the computer to your router. You’ll probably have one cable for an Ethernet cable and two for power.
* Wait a few minutes, then plug the power in.
* Wait for the router to finish booting up, then unplug it again.
* Repeat these steps until you receive an internet connection. Note: If your router doesn’t turn on, you may have a defective device and need to contact your ISP (internet service provider). They will be able to help you out with this problem.
If you’re still having trouble connecting to Netflix, call Netflix directly. They love helping their customers and will be able to fix your problem for sure!
