We all need a little help detoxing, cleansing, and getting back on track with our healthy lifestyle. 
This post covers the benefits detoxing can have for your fitness and health including: Your immune system, digestion, skin clarity, hormones (renews endocrine system), energy levels. Plus it also includes a list of resources for help getting started. The post will include step by step instructions on how to start from home or with guidance from a professional therapist at an in-patient clinic if you are feeling overwhelmed or not sure about where to start.
In recent years, the popularity of detox has increased tremendously. Perhaps it is due to health worries such as environmental pollution or simply to upgrade from our habitual lifestyle. Many people choose to detox in attempts to resolve their health issues, whether they are physical, mental or emotional.
The term "detox" refers to the process of removing unwanted substances from your body and restoring inner balance and harmony. Our bodies are exposed to endless toxins every day: from air pollution and cigarette smoke; pesticides in the food we eat; stress and negative emotions; various chemicals and medications. These can build up over time causing damage to our cells and organs. By performing a detox, you will be allowing your body to eliminate these substances by improving the elimination and assimilation of waste.
DETOX YOUR THINKING PROCESS
Detoxification does not just apply to our bodies, but also to our minds. Unresolved issues can affect our health on a deeper level than we are aware of. A detoxification program can help us change unwanted habits, improve quality of life and well-being through the process of removing negative influences from our lives and reprogramming the way we think about ourselves. Our lives become more positive and have a greater sense of fulfillment and contentment.
"Detox" means to "detach" or "remove" something. We choose to detoxify our lives so that we can detach ourselves from toxic or harmful substances, thoughts, habits, emotions and people. The term "detoxification" has been used to refer to physical detoxification, environmental detoxification and mental detoxification. 
There are many benefits of performing a detox for your body, mind and spirit:
Immune system boost - What causes the biggest threat to our immune system is when there are toxins present in our bodies which stop our immune cells from doing their job properly. This is because they go unused and therefore get weaker. Detox helps to keep our immune system strong and healthy by increasing our body's ability to fight infections and disease.
The skin is also a big eliminator of toxins. It is one of the largest organs in the body, and it is exposed to various environmental toxins over its lifetime. By helping the skin eliminate these toxins, you will notice clearer, healthier skin.
As with the immune system, when we detoxify our bodies, we allow all our organs (particularly the liver) to work more efficiently thus preventing fatigue and illness. Our bodies get more energy as a result which can lead to feeling happier and more positive about life in general. 
Our bodies are unable to absorb nutrients properly when we are full of toxins. This leads to health problems and premature aging. By detoxifying, we allow our bodies to absorb nutrients effectively, therefore leading to a better-functioning body and more energy to do the things that make us happy. 
To summarize: Detoxing can help you achieve a healthier lifestyle by boosting your immune system, keeping your skin healthy and getting rid of those pesky toxins!
Detox yourself with these steps:  
1 - Find time in your schedule where you will not have any distractions or interruptions. 
2 - Invest in a good quality essential oil diffuser for when you go to bed.  This is great for cleansing your body and getting rid of toxins before you sleep. You can buy these online or at your local health food store. (I prefer the oil-based diffusers!)  
3 - Drink plenty of purified water throughout the day.  You should aim for 2-3 litres daily, as this will help to flush out the toxins more efficiently.
4 - Exercise regularly!  This will help to boost your immune system as you are getting rid of more toxins through sweat.  Forms of exercise that are good for detoxification include: yoga, pilates, cycling, running, walking and weight lifting.
5 - Get a colonic irrigation kit at your local drug store or online (I prefer the ones from "Organica Waters" as you get a book with resources and information regarding colon cleansing).  
If you are unsure about how to go about this process on your own then there are many facilities that offer different types of detoxing programs which can range from one week to four weeks. Some programs offer the option to go back to work while others will have you leave work for a week. This is always a personal decision so be sure to research the facilities and what they can offer you before making your decision!
6 - Do not binge-eat within 48 hours of going on this process, otherwise it will mess with your digestion and well-being.  Also, eating raw fruits and vegetables can help you detox your body.  Take some time to shop from organic food sources that have been grown without pesticides.
