Online Internet Shopping is the Craze in Australia
It’s the new craze in Australia. With online shopping, this country is catching up to the rest of the world. It’s better for Australia's environment, and it doesn't detract from what our locals produce. It not only saves money but it also creates more jobs for Australians than it destroys. And best of all, you won't have to leave your house!
This post will tell you everything about how online shopping has become a huge part in Australian society and why we should be thankful for it instead of complaining about its negative effects on our economy.
Online shopping is a recent trend that has taken the world by storm. Once it was on the verge of extinction, now it is booming. Online shopping has gone from being a novelty to a full blown industry. It has become much easier for Australians to buy online with retailers such as eBay, Amazon, or big name stores like JB Hi-Fi and Kogan. We can even go to our local supermarket and get anything we want delivered to our door! But this begs the question: why would we want all of this stuff delivered to us? That's right - convenience! Gone are the days in which you have to go out and physically buy a product. You just have to find it online, buy it, and BAM! You will receive a box full of products in a week or so.
Online shopping is great for our environment as well. When you buy online, you don't have to burn gasoline and release CO2 into the atmosphere. But how about all of the stuff that is shipped from overseas? Well…that’s why we were supposed to be worried about online shopping taking over our economy! Most of the stuff shipped from overseas is already made here in Australia, only packaged in a different way so it can make it over here with minimal shipping costs. So what we are really doing is shifting the location of where things are getting made, instead of starting a whole new factory just to get an item here - which would be stupid!
This might sound odd, but online shopping has created more jobs in Australia than it takes away! Think about it - you don’t have to work at a retail shop anymore. You can just do it from home. That doesn't mean there are more retail jobs for Australians than before. We have more brand new industries that haven't been around before this.
Australian companies such as Kogan, JB Hi-Fi, and Coles-Myer have been starting up new web businesses that are based in Australia. These new businesses need a lot of space for their home offices and to store all of the big boxes of stuff they make. Installing production plants within our borders was not feasible, so they had no choice but to go overseas for it. These businesses also require workers with a high level of technical know-how. They need people who can install software needed to run the website, or the software needed for customer service and handling orders. These workers are getting paid a decent salary for their work too! So all in all we have not only saved money by having online shopping but we have created more jobs for Australians and started new industries as well.
Australia has had its fair share of crap businesses that were based overseas that have failed, such as Toys ‘R’ Us or The Iconic. They took our money, made us wait weeks to get our items, and then just decided to pull out of Australia entirely! If these whole industries were based here, they would probably not be having these problems. Apparently this is because online shopping has affected the retail sector in Australia more than anything else. Online retailers don't just get Australian’s money, they also offer them convenience that bricks-and-mortar stores can’t. The way I see it is: are we really going to go pay inflated prices at a bricks-and-mortar store when we can get it online for cheaper and have it delivered to our front door? Of course not!
So all in all, online shopping is the best thing since sliced bread! Let's hope that this craze continues and becomes even more popular in Australia.

Conclusion
The biggest impacts of online shopping on our economy are the growing jobs market, increased productivity due to our manufacturing industries, and reduced pollution from less packaging. Online shopping is a great thing for Australians! Hopefully this post has helped you to decide if you want to support the online shopping industry or try and stop it.
