Phone Games of the 21st Century
For many people, the best part about getting a new phone is downloading games. Whether you're planning to play when you're bored, simply enjoy the time for yourself, or follow your goal of making friends by playing games with others, these platforms are worth knowing about.
In this blog post, I will be explaining what makes these games so alluring and successful as they have become a staple in our lives as well as what separates them from other online apps. With that being said, it's only right to explain how they were made in the first place.
According to an interview with the creator of Flappy Bird, as well as a blog post by the creator himself, these games can make you "rich overnight." No joke!! Dong Nguyen Speaks!
According to Ngyuen, he developed a game called "Flappy Bird" for fun when he was bored. He never expected it to become such a big hit so he posted the game on Android Market and the iTunes App Store. In fact, according to Nguyen's blog post, which you can read here , he states that his app was downloaded 10 million times but only made $50 per day. So what happened to make him hit number 1 on the iTune's App Store charts?
Apparently Nguyen even thought about taking down the game and never making it again but he was swamped with messages for people begging for the app to be available. He also received threatening messages and hate from people who were so addicted to his app that when he took it down, they became angry about it.
After releasing the app back onto iTunes, Nguyen banned all countries from getting his app as he wanted no one to play his game anymore. So why did he do this? Apparently, Ngyuen states that "making games is my life. So I don't have any other hobbies; therefore my games are my life. So I don't want to do this anymore." But if he was making so much money, why did he even want to quit?
Ngyuen says that his entire family was very supportive of his decision and that they were proud of him. He did not want them to suffer because of his choice and says, "If I keep doing this, my family is going to starve." This is an interesting concept when you think about it. Actually, why are we playing these games in the first place? At the end of the day, they only make us feel good when we get a high score or win a game.
